Before the winter arrives, there are something’s which are to be kept in a mind. Your brakes should be adjusted, make sure that all the lights are in good working order and if you are not already using all-season oil then switch to winter-weight oil. Voltage and battery should be properly checked, make sure that the battery connections are good.

If a battery terminal post builds up a layer of corrosion then it should be cleaned with water and baking soda. Let it rinse with water and to prevent corrosion, thin film of petroleum should be applied to the terminal posts. Wiper blades should be cleaned properly. Go through the user manual as soon as you get the car keys. Mark the minor engine problems related to ignition and fuel. Also, mark the period at which the engine and brake fluid should be changed. You can even carry the manual with you until you become familiar with fixing such problems. Most of the problems are minor problems related to engine which you yourself can solve thereby saving on the maintenance costs.

Make a note of when to change the brake and engine oil and make sure you change them a few days ahead of what is mentioned in the manual. Also, get the air pressure in your car tires checked regularly and keep it as mentioned in the manual.

You may have purchases a new car or an old one based on your choice and circumstances. The first point in auto care is the car insurance. If you have opted for a new one, check if the insurance the dealer provides is a good one.

Try to convince them to get the car insurance from some another company if you find that the insurance company associated is not a good one. This may be difficult but not impossible. No car dealer can afford to lose a customer on a small issue of insurance. If you bought a used car, you yourself need to find a good insurance company for your car.

Try to understand the minor engine bugs and learn how to fix them. They are not at all difficult if you follow the steps given in the user manual. It is recommended that you carry your user manual with you until you learn most of the tricks related to minor engine problems. Some of these can be locating and cleaning the spark plugs, replacing the ignition wires, checking the ventilation (air filters), and issues related to fuel.
